Leonardo Hidalgo Named the Official Artist of the City of Miami- 116
Leonardo Hidalgo Named the Official Artist of the City of Miami- 116 Leonardo Hidalgo has recently been named the official artist for the 116th birthday of the City of Miami. Mayor Tomas Regalado, Leonardo Hidalgo and Herman Echevarria, entrepreneur and philanthropist, were on hand for the unveiling of the original artwork. Hidalgo donated the painting to the City of Miami and it will be on display in Miami City Hall. Posters of this piece will be available with 100% of sales going directly towards benefiting The Olympia Theater at the Gusman Center. “When I was approached to create the official artwork for the 116th birthday of the City of Miami, it was a happy moment to give back the love I feel for the city where I have spent half of my life” exclaims the artist. “Miami is a young city full of vitality, celebration, dreams, hopes, prosperity, and joy. In this painting I found my inspiration in the city's symbol, it's logo, and incorporated a sweet 16 crown in honor of our growing Miami, added the tropical colors, the blue of the sea, the rays of the sun, the energy, movement, and it's pulsating multicultural spice. Miami has a colorful future and I thank the City of Miami and Downtownmiami.com for allowing me this great opportunity to give back and share through my artwork the positive energy in this grand celebration.” To learn more about the artist please visit www.leonardohidalgo.com.

THE MIAMI HERALD- Artist pays tribute to his superheroes
THE MIAMI HERALD- Artist pays tribute to his superheroes Growing up, artist Leonardo Hidalgo was infatuated with comic books and the pages filled with superheroes who tracked down the bad and ugly. Later, as his art career flourished, his favorite characters became his inspiration. Known for his canvas creations of Superman, Pop Eye, Thor, Mickey Mouse and Scarface’s Tony Montana, the Brickell resident has decided to pay homage to the real life “good guys.” Remembering the Heroes, a Sept. 11 tribute and exhibit, takes place Sunday through Sept. 25, at Wynwood’s Cafeina. Several of Hidalgo’s pieces will be featured, including “The Fire Hero” and “Superjoker.” “Firefighters and police officers are the true heroes for me. They are men of great courage, determination and strength, who put their life on the line on a daily basis,” he explained. “I paint superheroes from the comics of my youth, but these men are the real deal, and I admire them for their bravery.” Hidalgo’s exhibit at Cafeina, 297 Northwest 23rd St., Miami.

MIAMIARTZINE.COM | Leonardo Hidalgo By: James Cubby on September 01, 2011. Name: Leonardo Hidalgo City: Miami Birthplace: Guayaquil, Ecuador Artistic Medium: Acrylic on Canvas Mounted On Wood Covered with Resin How did you get started? I got started when I opened my eyes... Seriously, when I went to private school in Ecuador and my father saw my artistic ability he decided to enroll me in private art classes. Later on, I studied at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale where I further honed my skills. Who or what are your influences? Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollack, Jeff Koons, Murakami, Basquiat among many other artists. What? People and the beautiful energy of America. What inspires your work? Life inspires me. I want people to feel and see the energy in the colors, concept and techniques I use, which are the combination of acrylic paint, splashed glitter and resin, to bring out the brilliant shiny colors to life. I consider myself a high-energy painter. It is not what I paint; it is how people feel about it when they see my artwork. I want people to see and feel how passionate I am about my work and inspire the same passion in others, to go and live their passion in whatever they want in their life.
